Aquest cable està dissenyat per a models d’Opel (i Vauxhall) que disposen de port de diagnosi de 10 pins OBD1, principalment vehicles fabricats abans de 1996. No és compatible amb models Opel que ja incorporen de fàbrica l’estàndard OBD2 de 16 pins posterior a 1996. Es recomana verificar físicament el tipus de connector del vehicle abans de la compra.

Tanmateix, la compatibilitat amb totes les funcions de diagnosi depèn de l’eina utilitzada i dels protocols suportats pel vehicle. Un lector OBD1 dedicat sol oferir funcions optimitzades per a vehicles d’aquella generació, però limita la flexibilitat amb programari i maquinari actuals.

El cable fa 41 cm de longitud i està fabricat en plàstic ABS negre, amb connectors de 10 pins mascle i 16 pins femella. L’ABS proporciona bona flexibilitat per a ús automotriu i resistència mecànica davant de torsió i tracció moderada, però com que és un cable de diagnosi, no està dissenyat per a càrregues pesades ni exposició prolongada a temperatures extremes.

L’adaptador és plug-and-play: no necessita configuració ni alimentació pròpia. Només s’ha de connectar entre el port OBD1 de 10 pins del vehicle i l’eina de diagnosi amb connector OBD2 de 16 pins. Cal comprovar que l’eina de diagnosi seleccionada sigui compatible amb Opel OBD1.

Es recomana evitar doblegar excessivament el cable, exposar-lo a temperatures extremes (> 85 °C) o a una humitat elevada que pugui corroir els contactes. És important guardar l’adaptador en un lloc sec i net i netejar periòdicament els connectors amb aire comprimit per reduir el risc de males connexions o lectures errònies. No està dissenyat per a ús permanent, només per a diagnosi puntual.
