Les targetes genèriques compleixen la funció bàsica, però algunes poden presentar incompatibilitats esporàdiques o menys resistència davant cicles repetits d'esborrat/escriptura. No se'n recomana l'ús per a homebrew o per al maneig intensiu de dades crítiques.
