Aquest bruñidor està dissenyat per acoblar-se a un trepant elèctric estàndard amb portabroques de mínim 10 mm. Es recomana operar a velocitats baixes a mitjanes, típicament entre 700 i 1200 rpm, per evitar sobreescalfament i desgast prematur de les pedres. No és compatible amb motors que superin les 1500 rpm o que presentin sistema d’impacte.

Després de cada ús, es recomana netejar les pedres i el cos amb un raspall suau i una solució desgreixant per eliminar residus metàl·lics i lubricants. Les pedres s’han de substituir quan la seva longitud útil baixi per sota de 30 mm o presentin desgast irregular. En ús regular, les pedres duren entre 15 i 30 cilindres, depenent del material i les condicions de treball.

La principal diferència és la capacitat de treballar en diàmetres interns més petits, cosa que el fa més polivalent per a cilindres petits. Davant de models automàtics, aquest instrument requereix més intervenció manual i destresa, tot i que és més econòmic i permet més control sobre la pressió de bruñit. Els bruñidors automàtics ofereixen més rapidesa i homogeneïtat, però menys flexibilitat en diàmetres petits.
